The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has announced October 22, 2022, as resumption date for academic activities, following the suspension of eight-month strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
A memo obtained by The Guardian, yesterday, signed by the university’s Acting Registrar, Dr. A. N Egbosionu, asked students to return to campus on Saturday, October 22, 2022, while lectures for second semester will resume on Monday, October 24, for “the remaining part of 2020/2021 academic session.”
The memo further stated that lectures would end on Friday, October 29, while revision will commence from Monday, October 31, to Friday, November 4.
“Students are to sit for their second semester examinations between Monday, November 7 and 26, 2022,” it added.
The memo also indicated that students are to return for a new session immediately after examinations, on December 3, 2022.
Recall that ASUU suspended the strike last Friday, following series of meetings, negotiations and disagreements, which resulted to the ruling by the Appeal Court that the academic body should first obey the High Court order by calling of the strike.
The development is also reinforced by intervention of the House of Representatives leadership, aimed at resolving the impasse.
UNN was on the verge of concluding its second semester when the union began the strike.
Meanwhile, efforts have intensified to tidy the school environment ahead of resumption.
The Guardian observed, yesterday, that workmen have started clearing overgrown premises at Enugu campus of the school.
